WHAT IT MEANS TO BE "GREEN"

The term “green” seems to be everywhere now a days and it is used by just about every type of company in the world. One of the tools that is recognized as a gauge for things green is the Life Cycle Assessment. For all products that are manufactured the life cycle starts with the raw materials, goes through different manufacturing processes and then the finished product is shipped to the consumer. This is a very simplified explanation but is the basis for figuring out how green a product is.

We at Best Balms feel that “green” is the only way to go!

All of the raw materials that are used in our balms are 100% natural such as the beeswax, shea butters, carrier oils and essential oils. The processing of most of these ingredients is extremely energy efficient and the waste which consists of leaves, flowers, and roots is usually reprocessed as organic fertilizer. Not only that but the production of many of these oils actually help people around the world. There are cooperative cottage industries all over the world that are owned by local people who produce these oils and butters and beeswax. Not large corporations but ordinary people make this happen on a local level. What a great concept!

Once all these raw materials are processed they are usually poured or placed into containers of some type and shipped to our production facility. The beeswax, butters and carrier oils need to be heated and then the essential oils are added last. The balm mixture is then stirred, poured, room cooled, sealed and boxed for shipment.

The tin containers all of which are certified lead free that we use have been designed to be recycled as knick-knack containers that can be used over and over. Once the balm has been used up the container will remain as a great place to put your stuff in. This is what green is all about! Another facet of the green process is the imprinting of the tin which means we don’t use glue and paper for the labels that you will find on many skin product containers and in keeping with our eco-friendly corporate policy the lithographic inks are also lead free.

When you use our balms, all of the balm in the recyclable container is rubbed onto your skin or smoothed on your lips leaving no residue and no carbon footprint. Our products represent the ultimate in a green life cycle.

As with everything there is no perfect green life cycle except for the sun and most of our ingredients can thank the sun for their growth. The energy we use in the production process and shipping is minimal compared to most of the skin care products on the market today.

Many of our competitor’s products are artificial which means that a whole added cycle is needed to produce that particular artificial ingredient. If there is more than one artificial ingredient then the manufacturing process is multiplied by the number of artificial substances. This can add up very fast plus potentially being very harmful to the health of you, the consumer.

If it’s 100% all natural like all our products then that is what all natural & green should mean. As a result the green life cycle will be a whole lot greener! Our philosophy is very simple and that is what we live by” 100% Natural & 100% the Best” which equals a green product line that you can trust. Thanks for using our 100% all natural products.

SOME GREAT "GREEN" TIPS:

1.) Reuse our balm tins for the storage of knick- knacks, pills such as aspirin, coins or anything else that you can fit into them.

2.) Instead of buying all your vegetables at the supermarket why not grow your own. What a concept! Involve the kids and they get to learn how the food gets on their table

3.) Live close to work? Take out that bicycle and get moving. No gasoline, no insurance and no expensive mechanics to deal with. Plus you get great exercise and health benefits galore

4.) Going somewhere far away? Take the train instead of the plane and save money and the environment. It takes a little longer but the trip may be a lot more satisfying especially if you bring the kids.

5.) What about all those magazines you get and throw away? Read the magazines online and save a tree or two!

6.) Need to save on gas mileage? Make sure those tires are inflated to the specified pressure. Too little and you lose a lot of miles per gallon of gas. It’s a fact!

7.) Want to save the environment and still get clean clothes. Use eco-friendly detergents, fabric softeners and bleaches. Chlorine is toxic to the environment and there are better alternatives that use hydrogen peroxide based cleaners.

8.) Where is all the heat going? Turn down that thermostat and save big bucks in the winter and in the summer raise it so the air conditioner is used a bit less.

9.) Cold Water! Of course if you are washing clothes this is a great way of saving money on your utilities plus your clothes will be clean if you use the right eco-friendly detergents.

10.)Where did that clothes line go? Need to dry clothes in the spring and summer. Hang the clothes up after the wash and save money and get a great fresh smell without artificial chemicals.

11.)Don’t use bottled water! Make your own and save the planet one drop at a time. Install a good water filter and fill up a bottle of water and take it with you

12.) Shower with the water running? Of course not because that is a waste of water. Instead of running the water turn it on, get wet and then turn it off. Soap up and then turn it on again to rinse off. That wasn’t too bad was it.

13.) Change all those light bulbs to Compact Fluorescent Bulbs. They will last longer and will save you lots of money!

14) Lower the high limit setting on your hot water heater to save money, energy and a possible third degree burn
